Over 100 years of experience

Gedye and Sons Solicitors have been at the heart of the daily life of Grange-over-Sands, and the Cartmel Peninsula, for well over 100 years.  Former Liverpool solicitor Reginald Gedye started an office here in 1903 and very quickly he and his family were well known and well respected residents.  He served on the Town Council for many years and was soon elected Mayor.

In time his sons, John and Max, joined their father in the firm which by then provided a full range of legal services, especially as Grange expanded in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  Both also threw themselves into the social and charitable life of the area – Rotary, St Pauls Church, Grange Golf Clubs and Grange Swimming Pool were just some of organisations that they supported and helped.  John was a very accomplished amateur golfer and Max a stalwart swimmer at Grange Lido.

As our firm expanded our solicitors and support staff have played key roles in many local groups such as Abbeyfield Society, Grange Lecture Society, Bay Search and Rescue, Cartmel Priory Trust and Rotary. Some, like Gordon Ashton, have made significant contributions to the wider legal world with his definitive books on mental handicap and the law.

Today our team carry on that tradition of service to the community through their work with charities – both human and animal – and our director Claire Logan sits on Grange Town Council just as Reginald Gedye did over 100 years ago.

Others, like Richard Roberts, have played key local and national roles within professional bodies like The Law Society of England and Wales and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.  It was a result of this that we opened a London office in 201o bringing our particular blend of personal service and quality legal work to the City.

Our tradition of service means we take time to know our clients, their needs and worries, their joys and passions – and that can be reflected in the advice we give.  We are pleased to welcome you as a client or potential client of the firm.
