Claire joined Gedye & Sons in June 2015 and is a member of our Property Team. She advises clients on the buying and selling of both freehold and leasehold property. Her clients include businesses as well as individuals. She also advises clients on grant, renewal and surrender of leases.
Claire graduated in 2004 with LLB (Hons) from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. She went on to complete her LPC at The College of Law in York.
For the first nine years of her legal career Claire worked at Cartmell Shepherd in Carlisle. During her time with Cartmell Shepherd Claire was seconded to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s Property Department assisting with various property transactions, including lease negotiation and renewals, following the transfer of ownership from British Nuclear Fuels Limited. Her previous experience also includes Family Law and Dispute Resolution.
Originally from Grange-over-Sands, Claire has returned to her roots with her husband, identical twin boys and her Border Collie, Bob. In the last 12 months she has taken up three new hobbies; golf, pilates and running. Claire completed the Manchester 10k, Great North Run and Cumbrian Run in 2016 raising money for a local charity. Even with these new hobbies her favourite pastime is still fell walking with her family (and the trip to the pub after!).
Claire has always involved herself with her Local Law Societies as she values the support it gives not only to the profession but to individual solicitors as well. She was a committee member with the Carlisle and District Law Society during her time in the north of the county and immediately joined the Westmorland Law Society when she returned to Grange. Her commitment was rewarded when she was elected Lancaster and Cumbria’s Law Society Council Member in January 2017.
